August 18, 2011
THANK YOU WORLD
It
was a watershed year for Outside Lands. There’s not much
else to say, but thank you.
“For all its awesomeness, there aren't many things “San
Francisco” that can honestly say they embody the complete
spirit of this place.
Sure, certain events, festivals, days of the year, get
bits and pieces right here and there. But those “complete”
events, festivals or days are rare entities.
And that isn't a knock on these things because the San
Francisco Bay Area as a whole is so rich, thick and diverse
that the recipe is a hard one to master.
But that is where Outside Lands version 2011 is a winner.
Now officially four years old, the music, food, art and
wine extravaganza has figured it out - “it” being that
a music festival isn't necessarily made awesome by the
artists it books, but by whether or not you can book the
home-spirit of the place you are borrowing for a couple
of days. Accomplishing such a feat was Outside Lands' biggest
success.”

REFILLABLE WATER PROGRAM
We are encouraging all concert attendees to choose
refillable water over plastic water bottles to cut down
on the plastic consumption and overall carbon footprint
of the festival. For the fourth year in a row, we are offering
two different refillable water options: either purchase
a 2011 OSL stainless steel water bottle at a water station
for $15 or the merchandise booth and receive free refills
of spring water the entire festival or bring your own from
home and purchase the refills for $1. If you bring your
2008, 2009, or 2010 OSL water bottle drink for free all
weekend long! The refillable water stations are located
in the Polo Field and Eco Lands. Thanks for supporting
our greening initiatives! |

SATURDAY ARTIST ADDITION
We
are very excited that Sonny & The Sunsets have been
added to Saturday's lineup. Sonny
Smith began singing while a patient at Warm Springs Foundation
Hospital in Texas, to amuse the other patients. Quasi-mystical
with a tendency to write about new-agey subjects such as
hypnotherapy, extrasensory perception, fortune tellers,
palm readers and channelers Smith has been given his own
genre by the press as ‘pop supernaturalism’.

ECO LANDS - POWERED BY YOU
Eco
Lands, situated in the heart of Speedway Meadow across
from Wine Lands and 100% powered by alternative energy,
will be the focal point of the Outside Lands' sustainability
mission and environmental commitment for the 4th year in
a row. Outside Lands has continually raised the bar of
sustainable events and will once again challenge our attendees
to help decrease the festival's carbon footprint by watching
emerging artists on the solar-powered Panhandle Stage,
choosing refillable water bottles over plastic ones, recycling
and composting their waste, biking, carpooling or shuttling
to the festival, and eating locally sourced food from our
farmers' market and restaurants.
This year, Eco Lands is very excited to introduce Farm
Lands, a representation of San Francisco's commitment
to supporting urban agriculture and partnering with local
farmers. While visiting Farm Lands, attendees will be
able to visit three of San Francisco's most notable urban
agriculture non-profits (Garden for the Environment,
Hayes Valley Farm and Urban Sprouts) that will offer
a series of workshops demonstrating how urban dwellers
can grow fruits and vegetables. Next, drop by the Full
Belly Farms farmers' market and sink your teeth into
delicious, seasonal, organic fruit including a variety
of melons, grapes, apples, and a mixed selection of nuts.
Finally, enjoy eating your fruit and resting your feet
while sitting on the Farm Lands' barnyard bleachers,
built out of 250 straw bales.

OUTSIDE LANDS & CHOW PRESENT THE SUMMER
PAIRINGS SERIES: A 4-PART CULINARY SERIES IN CELEBRATION OF FOOD, WINE & MUSIC
So
Outside Lands fans, we're happy to inform you that this year
things are heating up a little earlier than usual with the
first ever Summer Pairings Series, presented by us here at
Outside Lands and CHOW and in collaboration with some of
the incredible personalities and talents who will have a
presence at the festival's A Taste of the Bay Area and Wine
Lands. Elevated picnicking is the idea here; events will
tap into the unforgettable pleasures of spending summer weekends
drinking, eating and listening to good tunes outdoors in
eager anticipation of Outside Lands.

will kick off the Summer Pairings Series with a wine tasting
and a special live performance by Nicki Bluhm & The Gramblers.
Sunday, July 10: The next day, Namu and Scribe will host
the second series with a taco and wine tasting set to an
Outside Lands inspired playlist outdoors on Scribe's oak
knoll.
Sunday, July 24: Tres Sabores Winery and Straw will host
an evening devoted to wine tasting, carnival-inspired bites
and film on their pristine ranch.

Wine Shop, there will be a rosé tasting of Kermit Lynch's
extensive collection paired with grilled cheese sandwiches
and tomato soup shooters by The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen.

OUTSIDE LANDS MUSIC & ARTS FESTIVAL 2011
ANNOUNCES ROCK STAR LINE-UP OF OVER 60 RESTAURANTS
AND WINERIES
In this veritable form of concession-stand heaven, 34 restaurants are
found throughout Golden Gate Park to comprise Outside Lands’ A Taste
of the Bay Area and showcase San Francisco’s culinary creativity. This
year’s exciting newcomers include Salumeria by Flour + Water, Straw,
4505 Meats, The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, Memphis Minnie’s BBQ,
Kasa Indian Eatery and Ritual Coffee Roasters. Nearly all of past years’
vendors will return – expect to see Pacific Catch,
Namu, Maverick, Farmer Brown’s Little Skillet, Tacolicious, and Mission
Minis to name a few. Rather than the typical concert fare of popcorn
and hot dogs, think a menu replete with Pacific Coast catches like
Raw Oysters and Hawaiian Poke and healthier alternatives to sausages
and french fries like Sweet Potato Tots, 100% Grass-Fed Beef Hot Dogs
and Vegan Apple Sage Sausages. In a testament to San Francisco’s cultural
diversity there are Schawarma Snow Cones, Korean Tacos, Chicharrones
and Guajillo Braised Beer Short Ribs. For a jumpstart between shows,
there are Cold-brewed Iced Coffees and Cucumber Melon Spritzers, Organic
Ice Creams, Coconut Chais and Gourmet Mini Cupcakes. For the complete
list of restaurants please see below.
SEE
ALL RESTAURANTS AT A TASTE OF THE BAY AREA

Under a tented area in the Speedway Meadow of Golden Gate Park, concertgoers
have access to one of the country’s most exciting wine experiences
with 30 wineries pouring 100 different wines. Wine Lands is distinct
in that many of the winemakers are actually on site and conversing
with an audience with the level of intimacy one would find in a tasting
room. Unlike a typical wine tasting, however, Wine Lands sees the interaction
of winemakers with an audience they may not typically reach, such as
the younger set who go to the festival to see Phish only to discover
kegs of Napa Valley Sauvignon Blanc, a penchant for Anderson Valley
Pinot Noir or the cosmic power of biodynamic wine. This year, Wine

Summer of Riesling tour. A selection of French imports from the Berkeley
wine icon Kermit Lynch will also be featured at Wine Lands. For the

OUTSIDE LANDS ANNOUNCES 2011 LINEUP
Another
Planet Entertainment, Superfly Presents and Starr Hill Presents, in
a partnership with the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department,
are proud to announce the lineup for the fourth annual Outside Lands
Music & Arts Festival. The festival will once again take place
in San Francisco’s historic Golden Gate Park August 12 – 14, 2011.
Tickets will go on sale Thursday April 14 at 12 Noon PST with a significant
portion of every ticket sold directly benefitting San Francisco’s Recreation
and Park Department.
In its first three years, the Outside Lands Music & Arts Festival
has diligently worked its way into becoming a welcomed and beloved
tradition in its hometown, as it is now known throughout the country
as the event that celebrates in grand style all the things that make
the Bay Area one of the most desirable places to live and visit. Besides
raising nearly $3,000,000 for the San Francisco Recreation and Park
Department, the festival has set a new standard for live music in Northern
California and the 2011 lineup is perhaps one of its most diverse and
exciting to date. As in the past, major national headliners such as
Deadmau5, Girl Talk, Beirut, Sia, Josh Ritter & The Royal City
Band, Best Coast, Phantogram, Junip, Foster the People, The Joy Formidable
and legends such as John Fogerty, The Original Meters, Big Audio Dynamite
and Mavis Staples.
