American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Northern California

https://www.aclunc.org/

Mission Statement:
The ACLU of Northern California is an enduring guardian of justice, fairness, equality, and freedom, working to protect and advance civil liberties for all Californians. As we witness a surge in unconstitutional laws that threaten American values, the ACLU-NC uses nearly a century of experience in impact litigation, legislative advocacy, and fearless organizing to fight un-American policies and protect our most cherished rights and freedoms. We are the resistance.

Description of Activities:
Now more than ever, the ACLU needs you. Join the San Francisco Chapter to learn how you can be involved and to make your voice and your values heard. We will be discussing California legislation that protects against federally unconstitutional and un-American policies, and advances civil liberties here in California despite the best efforts of the current administration.

Take action on SB 10, the Money Bail Reform Act of 2017. The U.S. money bail system is largely to blame for over-crowded jails across the nation. 70 percent of people are incarcerated for one simple reason: being too poor; and, Black people, Latinos, and Native Americans are twice as likely to be stuck in jail because they can't afford bail. We can change that here in California.

The California Values Act, SB 54, will disentangle local law enforcement from Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). We are building a wall here in California against federal efforts to tear families apart with increased deportations.

Learn more about these bills and other urgent needs from the ACLU by stopping by our table.
